harding lived. linda yee learned police up north wanted to talk to him about a fatal shooting there. >> reporter: a witness video posted on youtube documents the minutes after the shooting. the suspect is down. police surround him. and the crowd becomes increasingly agitated. >> one, two, three, four, five, six. >> reporter: on the ground according to the witness a weapon. missed by officers but picked up by someone in the crowd. police looked at that video, identified the person and recovered the gun today. investigators believe it is the same 45 caliber weapon used by the suspect to shoot at officers yesterday afternoon. >> the suspect fled on foot during the course of the foot pursuit we believe the suspect fired backwards at the officers. the officers returned fire in self-defense. >> reporter: late today the police chief released new information about the dead suspect. he was a 19-year-old parolee

from washington state and was a person of interest in the shooting of four people in seattle including a woman who was kill. today bayview residents were angry gathering on the muni platform where police first confronted the suspect claiming police shot an unarmed man. >> the man did not have a gun. they shot that man and let that man die in fronts of my face, in fronts of these kids' faces out here. >> reporter: dozens of officers stood by and watched at protestors chanted. >> you can see frustration. there is no relationship between the community and the police department obviously. they show up on motorcycles and riot gear. it becomes intimidating to the young people. they lost a loved one. ancestors inside of them are crying out today. >> reporter: no less than four different groups are looking into this case including homicide investigators, internal affairs, the district attorney and the officers of citizens' complaints.

in san francisco, linda yee, cbs5. a handful of community groups are now calling on the fbi to look into this police shooting. they also want district attorney george gascon removed from the investigation citing her former role as police chief as a conflict of interest. >> four shootings in less than 10 hours in oakland leave one person dead, three others wounded. a 28-year-old man was killed last night in west oakland. he was shot while driving his suv at 19th and west streets. no motive and no suspects. it is oakland's 65th homicide of the year. three other people are recovering from three shootings between 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon and 9:30 p.m. last night. you can see on a map where the shootings happened. two of the victims actually managed to get themselves to the hospital. the third was treated and released. no suspects in any of these shootings. crime stoppers is offering $10,000 for information leading to any suspects. we also have new details tonight in the murder of a

young mother whose burned body was discovered in the rockridge neighborhood of oakland. police have identified a person of interest in the killing of 21-year-old monica lotus. investigators expect she was killed at a different location before her body was dumped and then set on fire. meanwhile, close friends of losus and community activists held a car wash fund-raiser today. friends say a big part of the event was to help pay for her funeral. then set up a trust fund for her 2-year-old son. still activists from an empowerment program said they are shocked about how this union city mother was killed. >> a human being is dead. and a human being was burned alive. as a bay area community we need to be outraged. we cannot live in a society which is okay with violence against a woman. >> friends say she was a happy

outgoing mother who loved her son. donations are still being accepted at the oakland ymca. and a $10,000 reward is being offered leading to the killer's arrest. a young man who came here from the midwest has plans on a grand scale. mark sayre is in san francisco at the starting point for what is going to be a very long road ahead. hi, mark. >> reporter: long indeed, juliette. this journey will begin here tomorrow morning at san francisco fire station. 34. richmond district. this is a journey that is not only about endurance, it is also about honor. chris harly is a volunteer firefighter from wisconsin and it was 9/11 that attracted him to the fire service in the first place. >> i was in the eighth grade when the terrorists went down and it really struck a cord with me seeing that and i'm just trying to think of the best way to kind of tip my hat to them. >> reporter: now he is setting off on the challenge of a

lifetime to honor fallen firefighters from new york and throughout the nation, ruff is going to rye to make it from san francisco all the way to ground zero on his bike in time for the 10th anniversary of nene. >> i guess 9/11. >> hoping to raise awareness about firefighters. >> reporter: in his bindser contacts at all of those fire stations big and small. >> salt lake city. denver. omaha. >> reporter: the planned journey has been written about in several firefighting magazines. >> when i saw what he was doing i said i've got to get involve in this. this is something that -- like you said, it speaks to me. >> reporter: ruff says it is an effort from the heart and does not have much logistical support. he doesn't have a vehicle following around on the route

that will cover more than 4400 miles. >> it is going to be tough. you know, going through the desert that won't be fun. climbing the mountains won't be fun. it will be hard. but it is going to be worth it in the end. and to me, that means the motion . >> reporter: but one thing he does have passion for what he is attempting to do. >> to spend a year working for something and to be finally here it is a great feeling. >> this journey will begin here tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. in the morning. members of the san francisco fire department's cycling squad plan to join him for a little bit of the first leg. tomorrow he hopes to make it to watsonville. from there he will head down to southern california before going east, juliette. 4400 miles. believe it or not he is very excited to get this journey underway tomorrow. >> somehow i believe it. all right, mark sayre. mark, thank you. well, monday may bring stop-and-go traffic on the 405 in los angeles but what has been dubbed carmagedden won't be to blame. crews wrapped up work earlier

than expected. more now on the the driving factor that helped speed things along. >> reporter: an anxious driver got a jump start on the rest of southern california after sneaking onto the 405 minutes before the freeway reopened this morning. we got to experience the thrill of clear lanes for ourselves after police allowed us on. >> mission accomplished. >> reporter: during a news conference overlooking the 405 the l.a. mayor said the busiest freeway in the country would reopen 18 hours ahead of schedule. it meant thousands of dollars of savings because police and firefighters would not be deployed for another 12-hour shift. and a prime contractor in the project is getting a bonus for finishing ahead of schedule. >> we have 12-hour shifts that

cost about $700,000. they are getting $300,000 of it. >> all of the contingency time i put in for downed equipment went flawlessly. we didn't have a lot of downed equipment. >> reporter: as smoothly as this project went we are not even halfway done with the plans to rebuild the bridge. next summer we will see an encore presentation during the tear down of the other half and local officials say they don't want it all to take what happened this weekend for granted. a former member of casey anthony's defense team says casey anthony is in good hands despite a few reports of sightings she seems to be staying out of the public eye. she left jail with $587 in her pocket. the money sent by admirers. a jury convicted the 25-year- old woman of lying to investigators but acquitted her of murdering her 2-year-old daughter. the decision angered many following the case. for others, her release was

a violent new video game that goes on sale next week has already made some enemies. among them several mexican lawmakers and bay area group fighting negative images of latinos. kiet do shows us the game deals with mexico's drug war. >> reporter: the drug war in mexico that has left more than 40,000 people left dead seen

increasingly gruesome executions and strained relations with the u.s. now has its own video game. it is titled "call of warez, are cartel" with plenty of violence, sex, blood and even more violence. you can play as one of the cops or as one of the many thugs from a mexican drug cartel. >> i was disgusted. >> reporter: marcela heads the mexican heritage corporation. part of their mission is to combat negative media about latinos. >> it was just a celebration of evil period. do i want to pay somebody to portray the celebration of evil then give it to my kid? i don't think so. >> reporter: the san jose-based group is calling for a boycott. congressional leaders in the state where warez is located have asked their federal government to ban the game. the game maker issued a statement saying while the video game touches on subjects relevant to current events

screen. a free public viewing of the game was held at san francisco's civic center plaza. the face-off turned out to be a nail biter from start to finish. game highlights later in tonight's sports minute. now we will look at how our week is looking. >> our week is starting cool. we can see the waning moon. 90% of fool. we do have some clouds over the forecast region but i've got a bit of good news, no fog for tomorrow morning. let's get right into it. as we take a look at what we can expect we do have a cool start. below average high temperatures. some clouds that will work their way into the region. some mid and high level clouds. as we take a look to the north we will see thunderstorms building off the coast of oregon so what that means instead of the lower clouds we are seeing for the fog we are seeing mid and high level clouds that will grow really

tall. we want see the stratus clouds. here is a really good look at the fog that is burning out and mixing out really. so what we are seeing are those cold high clouds and then we can see that the marine layer is starting to dissipate through tonight into tomorrow morning. now for tomorrow we will see some clouds inland. some clouds and sun for the bay. sunrise 60:00 1 a.m. hard to believe it is already getting a little bit shorter as far as those days go. santa rosa. overnight low 50 degrees. 54 for oakland and concord. this is just about average due to those clouds that are keeping us a little bit warmer. our low pressure system is still influencing the area here so that's where we are seeing those mid and high level clouds. but that high pressure will keep things warm. still trending slightly below average. 60s for the coast. high 50s and 60s for the coast. 60s and 70s around the bay.

and santa clara your expected high 80 degrees. as we take a look at what we can expect. richrichmond keeping it in the high 60s. warmer temperatures but not much warmer. extendedf. i have decreased our temperature for wednesday just by 1 degree, not much there, juliette. but just a little bit cooler. so instead of 90 you are seeing 89. don't be too upset about that but then i promise we will see more thursday clouds. >> by one little degree. >> but it counts. >> it does. >> as far as accuracy it counts. >> thank you so much. >> of course. any one of them could have been demolished with a single
